DSL Rollout for AIC
Access Internet Communications is pleased to offer you this premium DSL service. Call our office and ask to check DSL availability at your home or business location. We can pre-qualify you beginning on July 15th. Just call our office on or after this date and we will be happy to assist you. Now here is the article that explains what DSL is and why our offering is a good value... DSL is an acronym for Digital Subscriber Line; it is a high-speed connection to the Internet that is many times faster (384k) than the fastest dialup modem (53k). Many of our customers are not able to achieve 53k connections to Access Internet Communications due to poor phone lines to your home. DSL solves that problem. One of the other advantages of DSL is that it always on. There is no delay for the modem to dial when you want to use the Internet. Our DSL service is similar to other offerings in the marketplace. You can not run a sever at home if you have our basic consumer service. We will also offer a number of other service plans suited for the home office user who needs more bandwidth and additionally plans designed for commercial use that do allow the running of servers. If you need to run a server or need a real live hot connection continuously please call the office for details on other business service plans. We offer DSL up to T-1 speeds for business use. Consumer level service can not be installed at a commercial location. While you see a lot of references to this exciting new service it is still only available in some areas. The last data point we have says that 43% of the Silicon Valley has service. DSL will be available from Access Internet Communications in a number of major cities around the nation on July 1st and as the infrastructure is upgraded it will expand to provide coverage for most rest of the country. We expect the Silicon Valley to be quickly covered. We have made the choice to not resell the PacBell service because it does not meet our standards of customer service. The company we are buying service from, Covad Communications has a wholesale arrangement with our leased Point Of Presence provider. Covad has the best reputation in the industry for DSL service. One caution is that installation can be a little rocky. If you order from any provider of DSL service the install requires that equipment be installed inside your computer by one of their technicians. All of this work is done by a contract service company and at times they may not get it right the first time. We plan to be guinea pigs ourselves to keep a close handle on service levels. If there is a concern during the install please call our office and we will intervene on your behalf. How much will it cost? Service with us is the same as PacBell, $49.95 a month. What you get from us is a reliable network designed by engineers familiar with the Internet as well as our superior service levels. Access Internet Communications has an internal network second to none. We also do not force you to sign a yearlong contract. PacBell charges $59.95 if you want month to month service. If you read the fine print, many of the "deals" have hidden costs. With us, what you see is what you get. There is a $100 signup charge that pays for installation and we will provide you the $99 DSL modem that is installed in your computer at cost. As you consider DSL you may come to the conclusion that it is too expensive and it may be if you are a very light Internet user. If you have a need for speed you should consider that if you have a second phone line for your computers exclusive use that this service will replace it. This is a hidden saving in that the DSL line will replace this second phone line. The way to look at is that we charge you $49.95 a month, minus the cost for a second line of $11.75 per month, so your total outlay per month is $38.20 per month.
